MARK ALAN RAITH, born in Reading, Pennsylvania.

While in law school, Mr. Raith served as a judicial aide to the Honorable Forrest G. Schaeffer, then President Judge of the Berks County Court of Common Pleas.  Mr. Raith was certified by the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania in 1987 to prosecute preliminary hearings and summary criminal offenses for the Berks County District Attorney's Office, and represented the Commonwealth at many preliminary and summary offense hearings in Reading and Berks County.  

 

After graduating from Villanova Law School in 1988, Mr. Raith served as a Staff Attorney/Pro Se Law Clerk for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, where he drafted orders, memoranda, and opinions for all the Judges of the court relating to prisoner civil rights cases.  In 1989, Mr. Raith became Law Clerk to the Honorable Robert F. Kelly of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, a position he held until 1991.  Following two years engaged in the private practice of law in Philadelphia, Mr. Raith again served as a Law Clerk to Judge Kelly from 1993 to 1995.   He also served as a Temporary Law Clerk to the Honorable Thomas M. Twardowski of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, whose chambers were in Reading, Pennsylvania, in 1997 and 1998.

 

Prior to joining Holsten & Associates, Mr. Raith was an insurance defense attorney for over ten (10) years, primarily with two Berks County firms.  In that capacity he has represented many insureds and insurers involved in motor vehicle, premises liability, coverage, civil rights, and bad faith cases.  He has tried cases in state and federal court and has handled many appellate cases as well, including cases before all three Pennsylvania appellate courts, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, and a writ of certiorari to the United States Supreme Court.  


Since joining Holsten & Associates, Mr. Raith has handled a wide variety of cases involving municipal law, including general liability, civil rights, and breach of contract cases, and represented municipalities in matter ranging from code enforcement matters at the district justice level to appeals before the Third Circuit Court of Appeals.   


He has been a member of the School Board for St. Catherine of Siena Regional School in Mount Penn, Pennsylvania, where he has also served as an assistant basketball coach.
